Adding your new email account (in Outlook and Outlook Express)
Before beginning, gather two different sets of account login info:
- Provided by your own Internet Service Provider (please contact them if you can't find this info):
- the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" address
- user name (may be called "account ID")
- the password
- Provided by us when we created your email account:
- user name
- password
- From the Tools pull-down menu select the Accounts option.
- Select the Mail tab.
Click the Add button and select Mail from the resulting list.
- A wizard will appear. Follow it's instructions, using the below info:
- Incoming mail POP3 server:
This should be: walnutdesign.com - Select POP3
- Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:
Here, you should use the address your Internet Service Provider has instructed you to use. [examples]
- Incoming mail POP3 server:
- After completing the wizard you should be returned to the "Internet Accounts" dialog box and will see the new account you created. It will probably be listed as "walnutdesign.com" Decide which of your accounts is to be your "Default" account. When you compose and send emails, they will be sent using your "default" account. People who receive your email will see your name and address as you entered for this account.
- We will now go back to check what you entered and change a couple things. Select your new account then click the Properties button.
- The account General tab:
- Rename your Mail Account to be the same as your email address. (This account name can be anything, but my suggestion here will make it easier when you are doing certain things in Outlook).
- In second box - the Name box, this should be your full real name. (When you send or reply to mail from this account, others will see your email as being from what ever person you enter here.)
- Across the top, select the Servers tab to show this view:
Check the boxes as shown and verify that the other items in this Servers tab are correct (refer to the step #3 tips above) - Above, in the Servers tab, click on that Settings button to bring up the below dialog box:

This is where you need the email account setup info from your own Internet Service Provider (not from us). Be sure you have "Log on using" selected, and no checkmark for "Log on using..." - To determine the next step, please select #1 or #2:
-
multiple computers - special setup needed :
Normally, immediately after Outlook successfully downloads all your email from the server, those emails are deleted from the server. However, by saving a copy of messages on the server for a couple days, you would be able to set up this email account on your computer at home and another computer at work. Both computers (or both business partners) can now receive the same set of messages because they remain waiting on the server. Both computers must be set to "leave a copy of messages on the server."
CAUTION:Saving emails on our server for days like this can cause your account to exceed it's allotted capacity if you get very large emails! When this happens, mail arriving at the server for your account vanishes into thin air - sometimes with no error message, so people will assume you got it. Suspect a full server mailbox if this happens - and keep the "Remove from server after" is set to a small number of days!
OK, this is all you need to do:
Click on the Advanced tab and enter as shown:

One computer only > You are done!
Click OK then Close - Test by sending an email to your self at your new email address. You should see no error messages, and in a minute, you should receive the test email
- Read a special request from your mail server admin

Options for working efficiency:
- If you now have more than this one email account active in your Outlook or Outlook Express, you may want to set up a "filter" or a "rule" so that email from each account goes into separate inbox folders.
- Only if you use Outlook (NOT Outlook Express) After you have that set up (item a above), you should go to Tools>Options>Preferences>Email Options button>Advanced Email Options button, and place a check in the box for the "In Folders other than inbox, save replies with original message" (Photo)
